Hollywood in Tennessee

All right, buckle up your seatbelts, and let's go for a ride. Hollywood has made many wrong decisions for over a decade, and it looks like it is on the verge of demise. As an independent film producer for over 15 years, I think it is time for the film industry to move its home location somewhere else. Will that fix all the problems? No, but it will be a start in a new, heavily needed direction. I think Tennessee would be a great location.

I understand some people may have a preconceived idea of Tennessee, but don't cut yourself short until you know the whole story. Tax incentives that worked correctly would probably be welcome in Tennessee, and look at the land spread of vacant land to open a city and community. I don't want to go in-depth here, explaining every little incremental part of how it would best fit in making Hollywood into a NEW Hollywood, but it is something to consider.

On the other hand, if Hollywood wants to crash and burn, so be it! I know that may sound harsh, but putting up with another decade of Hollywood is not worth it, so independent filmmakers need to take notice of what is happening. Studios in Hollywood may find it hard to separate from their bad choices and let them stay active as they are, even in a new location. So this is the time for independent filmmakers to take control and lead the film industry instead of being dictated to on what to do by a failing industry. If the NEW Hollywood can be the INDEPENDENT NEW Hollywood, I strongly think that Tennessee would be an excellent place for the creative mindset that the film industry needs.

How to approach entertainment in the new year?

I see new things happening with film, TV, books, and stories in 2025. The basic idea of storytelling will probably remain the same—the act structures—but without an agenda-driven orientation. However, I foresee many industry rules being broken to achieve success. Creativity in how things are done will be of major importance in 2025.

An Old Idea

An Old Idea

I woke up this morning thinking whether I should piece together a new story or film idea, or sort through my old pile of scripts collecting dust. I found a short film script I wrote a few years ago. The script had a fun title, in a genre not often used anymore. The genre fits perfectly with 1980s comedy films like *Revenge of the Nerds*, *Porky’s*, *Joystick*, *Spring Break*, *Hot Dog*, and *Fast Times at Ridgemont High*. I would love to work on the project—I have a feature film treatment for it, but only wrote the script as a short for several reasons. It’s good that a cup of coffee and a script can help bring back good times.

If you like that genre of film or are looking for a script to shoot in that genre, contact me.

Pre-production Meetings

I have had several meetings this week, from casting to production, with each meeting being for a different project—meaning different production projects. Each one of them had its own interests and disinterests, and they also had predicted problems. Some things never change on film projects, and over time, other things change too much. In short—after doing this for a good while, you learn when to drop some projects before they ever start.

A Stand Still

I love directing and producing films, but I feel the independent film scene is at a standstill—at least in the location where I like to make films. If you make short or independent feature films and are being productive in the area in which you live, please email me at contact.coffeehousefilmproducer@gmail.com
